Anonymous asked: Hi Karen! I'm going into 9th grade this fall. I've been interested in graphic design for over 2 years. However, my high school doesn't have graphic design as a class. I've been thinking about taking a class outside of school, or finding out if I can take the graphic design class offered at a high school in the same school district. I already take an art class outside of school, and I'm (hopefully) going to be taking 3D design in school. What do you think I should do if I want to go into g.d?
It sounds like you’re already doing everything right :) Definitely look into those other classes and take them if you’re able to figure out the logistics. The art class you’re taking now will definitely help in the future, since you need to be able to show a strong foundation in drawing and traditional art skills to get into almost any good art college. The only other things I would recommend would be to read any books on graphic design and typography you can find from your library and if they don’t have any good ones, order some online. I only started doing graphic design seriously when I was in 9th grade, and then I basically made things in Photoshop every day after school for four years. So just keep it up and stay motivated and I’m sure you’ll do great.
